On Sunday 20th November, year 6 pupils and their families gathered in All Saints Church for an important service as they joined pupils from two neighbouring schools, to confirm their faith in front of the large congregation. The ceremony was officiated by acting Bishop David who was ably supported by fellow members of the clergy. Bishop David welcomed worshippers from far and wide in fact as far away as Germany; Bishop David is to be congratulated on his fluency in German. Bishop David also treated the congregation to a solo rendition of one of his favourite songs from West Side Story with a poignant message.

Seven children from year 6 were baptised and were welcomed into the Church at the font. They were also presented with a candle to mark this occasion. Although the water in the font was extremely cold the children behaved impeccably and with the dignity the ceremony deserved.

The confirmation service saw a total of forty-one people confirming their faith, including twenty-seven children from All Saints. The children participated in the ceremony with confidence having listened carefully to Father Kevin’s guiding words prior to the service. Special thanks must be extended to LN, RF and MT for having the courage to read the lesson to a packed church, well done!  In pairs the children approached Bishop David and knelt before him to receive his blessing and be welcomed into the church. Once the candidates had been confirmed the service continued in a more traditional way and the congregation were invited to take the Communion- including the newly initiated.

The choir sang beautifully as always and it was a pleasure to see a former member of All Saints School singing a range of hymns in celebration. At the end of the service the newly confirmed were given the opportunity to have their photographs taken with Bishop David. The children were presented with a prayer book on behalf of the Bishop and a card of congratulations from all the staff at the school. Tea and coffee was enjoyed by all in the church hall to round off a fantastic morning of celebration.

We would like to give special thanks to Father Kevin for his efforts in preparing us for confirmation and to Bishop David for conducting this special service, marking a very important milestone in our Christian lives.
