On Friday 16th September, Year 5 embarked on a day of adventure and teamwork at Porthkerry Park.
We set off bright and early and managed to navigate our way, after some difficult challenges to our first activity.
Deep undercover we were given the first task of building dens.  In teams we collected the necessary equipment and worked together to construct our weather-proof shelters.
Our next task was to stop and refuel after all the excitement of den building.  We even managed to have some down time as a class in the playground.  It was great to spend time playing and laughing together.
After our stop, we headed down to the beach and using the Andy Goldsworthy sculptures as inspiration we made our own versions.  We were only allowed to use natural materials that we could find on the beach.  We were very pleased with our efforts.
The journey back from the beach involved one of us being blindfolded and our partner giving us instructions to ensure we were safe.  We really did have to put all our trust in our friend’s hands.  We also undertook the leap of faith; admittedly it was easier as we were allowed to remove our blindfolds!
The final activity of the day was sitting around the campfire, toasting marshmallows, singing songs and reflecting on a wonderful day.  We really enjoyed learning how to bungalow but we think the marshmallows were the highlight of this activity.
We all really enjoyed the day and had great fun with friends making very special memories.
A BIG thank you to Miss Mac, Mr Voss, the Porthkerry Park Rangers, Alex & Mel and all the other adults who came down with us who helped to make the day so special.
