This week we have been thinking about the story of The Gingerbread Man. We have been substituting the animals that chase him with our own ideas. Our main focus in literacy this week has been thinking of words to describe the people/ animals / creatures that chase the little gingerbread man.

Here are some of our ideas!!

A magical wizard.
A cute tiger.
A fierce goat.
The amazing superhero.
The strong Ben Ten.
A fire breathing dragon!

The literacy focus for our writing tasks and activities inspired by the Gingerbread Man story  include:
  • Putting a  clear space between  the words
  • Writing on the line
  • Dangly letters
  • Correct letter formation
  • Neat presentation
  • Using describing words
  • Using suddenly / because
  • Putting a full stop in the writing.

We have also been tracing pictures of the Gingerbread Man (we love tracing in Year 1!) and decorating him with our own designs; making a boat for the Gingerbread Man to get away from the fox, writing speech bubbles about how the Gingerbread Man is feeling,  playing a gingerbread man drawing/dice game, and undertaking a very difficult sequencing activity of the story.

**Other news. **
We have now named our African snails! The welsh word for snail is malwen - Year 1 were given the task of trying to think of alliterative names to go with the wordmalwen. We were all thinking of names that started with M then… someone had the idea of the name Maelon! (The prince from the Santes Dwynwen story in our class assembly!!). With much excitement and fun it was decided that one of the snails would be called Maelon and the other to be called … Dwynwen!! Hooray! Have a look at this picture to see who is who.
