On Thursday 23rd October Year 4 had the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the Barry Tesco store as part of the Tesco Eat Happy Project.

The Tesco Eat Happy Project is their long-term commitment to help children have a better relationship with food through field trips, live video chats, hands-on cooking and much more.  Tesco want the next generation to have a healthier and happier relationship with food. To make this change, they are working to give them the tools they need to live a healthy life and make better decisions about what they put on their plates when they grow up.  

The Farm to Fork project is the first step they are taking to get children interested in where their food comes from. The Tesco Eat Happy Project will continue to evolve over time, introducing new opportunities for children to broaden their culinary horizons by making food interesting, engaging and fun. 

The children were shown where all the items are delivered in the store and also had a the chance to stand inside the giant fridges and freezers.  The class also had the opportunity to become fishmongers and look at all the different types of fish being sold.  

After this the children tasted different cheeses and went inside the bakery to see how all the loaves of bread, rolls and cakes are made.  The highlight was when the pupils were allowed to make their own doughnut to take home.  It must be said that most of the doughnuts did last the journey home!

Year 4 would like to thank everyone at the Barry Tesco store for a wonderful and informative field trip.
