We have had a fantastic first week back after half term in Y5.

We have really enjoyed having a ‘Welsh Week’ this week and have loved finding out all about what makes Wales so amazing.  We all entered the Eisteddfod art competition by drawing what we think Wales will look like in the future.  We have learnt songs, listened to music and also shared our poems with other classes.  We had a fantastic St David’s Day on Wednesday with everyone looking amazing in their Welsh themed costumes.  A big well done to everyone who also entered the St David’s Day baking and home art competitions.

We have also started our new topic ‘Marvellous Maps’  This topic we give us the opportunity to explore a range of maps and to develop their understanding of the key features of maps. We will study a range of maps and atlases, including digital maps, and compare their features. We will also learn to use the eight compass points to give directions and give grid references to locate places on a map.

We discovered the true meaning of Lent, wrote our Lent promises and shared them with each other.  We were also very fortunate to take part in an ‘Ash’ worship with Father Kevin.
