We have had a wonderful week in Year 5 this week.

In Maths we have been working on our doubling and halving strategies.  We have used the partitioning method to show our workings out, so that we can correctly solve the challenges.  We have also been solving a variety of word problems, by extracting the important information from the question and then using the correct method to get the correct answer.

In English we have been writing instructions.  We looked at all the different situations you would need instructions and as it is Christmas we wrote instructions on how to build a snowman.  We used the short film ‘Lily and the Snowman’ as our inspiration.  Click on the link to watch the film https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qehqv13PJwI

In our ICT lessons this week we have been completing the Hour of Code.  Coding helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. In our Topic work this week we have been studying Mary, Queen of Scots.

We really enjoyed sharing our LEGO learning with all our families on Friday.  Thank you to everyone who was able to come along and support this event.

The highlight of the week for us was our talk from the Ahmadiyya Muslim women's association of Cardiff.  They gave us a true insight into the Islamic faith and we all thoroughly enjoyed finding out lots of interesting facts.  We look forward to visiting them in their Mosque.
