We have had a wonderful week in Year 5.

In Maths we have been working on metric measurements of weight.  We have been converting between milligrams, grams, kilograms and tonnes and calculating fractional representations of these amounts.  We have also have been developing our mental maths strategies to help solve a variety of problems.  In English we have been writing detailed character descriptions.  We looked at what made a good character description and used a visual stimulus of a mysterious figure, to inspire our writing.

In Science we have been investigating the differences between reversible and irreversible changes.  We have also started to plan what we would like to discover in our new Science topic ‘Earth & Space’  In ICT we have been learning about ‘spam’ (not the meat in a tin), the forms it takes, and we have also been identify strategies and tips for handling spam safely. We even had a surprise visit from Ryan Evans,  Barry Town United's Vice Captain!

Without doubt, the highlight of the week was our class assembly.  Our class assembly was all about ‘remembering’.  We shared with everyone how we can all recall special times and how remembering helps us to learn from the past and to plan for the future. We reflected on how the sharing of memories is an important part of family, school and community life and that November is the time of year when we remember all those who sacrificed their lives for us during wars.
We were very proud and honoured to do our class assembly on Remembrance Day.  The assembly was made even more special that we were able to share this occasion with so many of our friends, members of family and the wider school community.

The Y5 children were incredible and everyone agreed that they gave a very moving and heartfelt remembrance assembly which truly honoured and celebrated all the men and women of the armed forces who have given so much for our freedom.

Da iawn Y5 we are very proud of you all.
